In the Better You Deep Dive, we take a closer look at one of the wellness topics we’ve highlighted in our Better You Digest. Discover, ponder, and enjoy!

“Our bodies are our gardens, our wills are our gardeners.”

William Shakespeare

Every word you say to yourself influences your health, energy, and vitality—and your body is always listening.

When you think powerful, positive thoughts, your body responds with strength, healing, and resilience.

If you flood your mind with fear, doubt, or negativity, your body will reflect that too—through stress, fatigue, and discomfort.

The key is to speak to yourself with love, certainty, and unwavering belief in your own ability to experience wellness.

Your mind holds the power to transform your body, so use it wisely!

P.S. Today’s Deep Dive explores this topic, and you can also check out my video about how to train your mind to heal your body here.

Healing your body with the power of your mind may seem like a radical idea, but in reality, it’s quite simple. The key lies in the way you think and speak about your health. Your thoughts and words shape your reality, so changing your physical experience starts with changing your mind.

The Words You Use Matter

Imagine going to a doctor and saying, “I have anxiety,” or “I always get sick.” By making these statements, you’re reinforcing the very issues you want to overcome. The human mind is wired to align our actions and reality with the way we define ourselves.

Consider how often people say things like:

  • “I always get headaches.”

  • “My stress triggers stomach issues.”

  • “My migraines are terrible.”

The problem with this language is that it assigns ownership to the condition, reinforcing its presence. Instead of saying "my anxiety" or "my pain," reframe it as "the anxiety" or "the pain." This subtle shift signals to your mind that the issue is separate from your identity and, therefore, something that can change.

Rewriting Your Internal Script

When faced with illness or injury, the way you speak about it directly influences your body’s ability to heal. I experienced this firsthand when I suffered multiple fractures in my ankle after being hit by a car. The doctors warned me that I might never walk properly again and could develop lifelong arthritis.

I had two choices:

1) Accept the negative prognosis and let my mind reinforce it…

…or 2) use the power of my thoughts to promote healing.

I chose the second path. Instead of focusing on the pain or swelling, I repeatedly told myself, “My left foot is healing perfectly. My bones are strong and aligned.” I visualized my ligaments knitting together, reinforcing the belief that my body was capable of full recovery.

And it worked.

The Science Behind Thought-Driven Healing

Every word you speak and every thought you think creates a blueprint that your mind and body work to follow. This is not just a motivational concept; it is supported by science.

In a study with children, researchers found that those who visualized their immune cells fighting off germs actually experienced a measurable increase in their immune response. If a child’s mind can trigger such a reaction, imagine the possibilities when you consciously direct your own thoughts toward healing.

The Healing Power of “D.I.C.C.” Therapy

To help people harness this power, I developed a simple yet effective method: D.I.C.C. Therapy—which stands for:

  • Direct

  • Instruct

  • Code

  • Command

This technique involves actively guiding your body to function as it was designed to. Instead of passively experiencing illness, you take charge by using clear, intentional language:

  • “I direct my immune system to function perfectly.”

  • “I instruct my digestion to work smoothly.”

  • “I command my body to be strong and healthy.”

Your body responds to these statements because the mind and body are intrinsically connected.

A Simple Exercise to Reprogram Your Mind

To put this into practice, try this short exercise:

  1. Close your eyes and scan your body from head to toe. Identify any areas that need healing.

  2. Observe how you describe the issue. Are you using negative or ownership-based language?

  3. Replace limiting statements with empowering ones. Instead of “I always get sick,” say, “My body is resilient and recovers quickly.”

  4. Repeat the D.I.C.C. affirmation:

    • “I direct, instruct, code, and command my [body part/system] to function perfectly.”

  5. Use visualization. Imagine your cells regenerating, your immune system strengthening, your bones aligning—or whatever area of your body you’re focusing on healing and working perfectly.

The best time to do this? In the shower, before bed, or anytime you have a quiet moment to focus.

Manifesting Health Through Your Thoughts and Beliefs

Your body listens to your thoughts. If you constantly tell yourself that you’re prone to illness, your body will respond accordingly. Conversely, if you affirm health and resilience, your body will work toward that reality.

Of course, illness can arise for many reasons beyond our control. But even in those cases, our mindset can play a significant role in the healing process. The choice is always ours: do we talk ourselves into sickness, or into health?

The Decision to Heal

Your body is the most valuable thing you’ll ever own. Treat it with respect through proper nourishment, movement, rest and, most importantly, the right mindset.

Small changes in the way you speak and think can lead to profound improvements in your well-being. So take a moment today to decide: Will you speak health into existence? Will you direct your mind to heal your body?

Because when you change your thoughts, you change everything.
